We currently have three kinds of Examens; Scripture, Prayer, and Journal. Scripture Examens will guide you to mediate on scripture with the goal of life-obedience. You have the choice of various New and Old Testament passages. Prayer Examens help provide focus as you pray. The guides do not tell you what to pray, but serve only as a catalyst to deepen your conversation with God. If you have an account, you can Journal through every type of Examen. We also provide an Examen that is a simply a journal with the option to retrieve any scripture passage you want.
During an Examen, you will be able to listen to the audio of a narrator reading the scripture passage you are viewing. If the audio of the passage is available, you will see a link next to the reference of the passage entitled "Listen." Click on the link. Once the audio begins the controls of the audio will appear, and you will be able to pause or rewind. Your computer must have the appropriate hardware and configuration to hear the audio.
During an Examen, you can see your progress through the Examen in the top-right of your screen. You will see what step you are on in reference to the number of steps through the Examen (e.g., Step 3 of 5).
Your Examen is saved every time you click "Save & Continue." You do not have to complete an Examen for your data to be saved.
